What Is Loft Insulation?
Loft insulation acts as a blanket over your house, trapping heat rising from below. Did you know that you could be losing around 25% of your home’s heat through your roof? Lost heat means higher energy bills. Loft Insulation is one of the easiest and most cost-effective ways of improving home energy efficiency. How much you can save on your heating bills depends on the thickness of the insulation

Loft Insulation Savings
The current recommendation from the Energy Saving Trust (EST) is now 270mm (around 10.5 inches).
The installation of 270mm of loft insulation will give savings of approximately £205 a year on your heating bills. This will also reduce carbon emissions by nearly one tonne a year. If your loft has not been insulated in the past 10 years, it will most likely require topping up.
Loft Insulation Survey
- The following points are checked during a survey for loft insulation:
- Depth of insulation required.
- Area of insulation required.

- Length of pipe work to be lagged.
- Number of cold water tanks to be insulated.
- Position of the hatch relative to tanks and pipes.
- Ventilation is adequate and no damp is present
Hot Water Jackets and Pipe Lagging
Hot water Jackets are a great way to reduce your heating costs and are offered at a very economical price of less than £20. Exposed pipe work is insulated FREE of charge

The Installation Process
STEP 1
We Recommend that you put down your own dust sheets, however, our installers will have these if you need help with this.
STEP 2
The installer will carry the loft insulation into the house enclosed in a bag, which will be opened in the loft space. One or two layers of insulation will be laid between and across the joists
STEP 3
If necessary, we will insulate the pipes and tanks subject to reasonable extent with regard to pipe insulation (we may decline to do this if the pipe work is in poor condition and such that leaks may result, if disturbed)
STEP 4 – Loft hatch
The back of the loft hatch may be insulated up to the same depth as the loft insulation, covered in plastic and secured to the hatch, wherever possible. Draught proofing will be fitted around the edge of the hatch. We will not unless stated and price agreed, create a new loft hatch.
